July monthly meeting of POW

The meeting for POW was held on July 24th at the cookie tree...7:00 a.m.
Eric, Herb, Evan and myself...sue "The tour plagued some of our members from attending".

We discussed the Aug.28 th Park and recreation "All day Recreation in the Park." The bike club would like to put on a "little bike rodeo" in the parking lot at Community Park. Ideas for the rodeo would encompass 1. bike check and small tune up. 2. skills for riding, 3. rules for the road 4. doing an obstacle course then presenting a certificate at the end.

Helmets to be given out to riders but only with a parent being present. We felt if the parent were there they MIGHT be more inclined to wear it.

We will need between 5-10 members to help mark the pavement and set up the obstacles for the course. Eric has readily available to him spray chalk with Evan being in charge of the course and obtaining all the needed supplies.

We would like for everyone that hands out the biking coupons to initial them so we can tack the provider and give them a big "thank you" for observing and making aware the importance of wearing the "brain protector."

The century ride will commence on sat. July 24 with the staging area at the chamber parking lot. 7:00 a.m. is the start time but I, for one, will be starting earlier...around 6:00 a.m. (Sue) due to the triple digit weather report for that day. Make sure you drink plenty of liquids.!!!!!!!!

The Leadership group of Pendleton has secured 4 bike racks from Cycle Oregon with the commitment of 2 more paid for by the Leadership group. Let's hear it for the Leadership group. The design will be in the shape of old hitching posts. Locations are still in the discussion stage. Very cool.

Working on new jerseys but not for publication as of print time.

Still working on Saturday morning breakfast servers for Cycle Oregon. If you can HELP Please call me, Sue, at 541-276-4569 or Chicken at 541-278-2276 Only need 16 more volunteers. Ask all your neighbors or relatives or inlaws....We will take anyone.

A wonderful bowl of oatmeal was consumed and the meeting was adjourned.
